2020 Reading Highlights

January 17, 2021 by Jennifer

I always enjoy looking through year-end reviews of people’s favorite things. For instance, and in particular, Austin Kleon has long been one of my favorite follows on the internet and I always look forward to his annual review of 100 Things. And if I remember to look for it, I like to skim through the Rabbit Room’s collection of Stuff We Liked.

I’ve been thinking back through my 2020 Reading List and these are my highlights –

In February, I really enjoyed The Whale and the Cupcake by Julia O’Malley and appreciated Brian Doyle’s A Book of Uncommon Prayer.

In March, I read again a couple Alexander McCall Smith books. The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency served me well on the slide into Covid life.

In July, introduced and inspired by my poet-friend, I found myself on a deep dive into Jane Kenyon’s life and work. Definitely a highlight. Perhaps I’ll come back here and put some words to that experience some day.

In December, the combo of Jesus and John Wayne and A Church called Tov was good pairing. And from there, I am currently reading The Challenge of the Disciplined Life aka Money, Sex, and Power by Richard Foster. There is probably a post or two I could write about this reading work too. Will see where my blogging takes me this year.
